in historic Fawnskin, California

Reimagined in 2021
Established in 1931

In March 2021, a tight-knit friend family of five purchased the Quail Cove Lodge from its longtime owners and transformed it into The Outpost, a unique mountain lodging experience and event space on Big Bear Lake's beautiful North Shore.

This side of Big Bear Lake provides an escape from traffic and a gateway to adventure. Fish along the shoreline, cycle around the lake, enjoy world-class bird watching, hike the Pacific Coast Trail or take Rim of the World Highway to access some of the best OHV trails and off-roading in Southern California.

Our cabins offer the perfect setting for a getaway with family and friends or a romantic stay with your special someone. Each of our five cabins has a personality all its own. Amenities in each cabin include wood-burning stone fireplaces, hairdryers, clothing irons, WiFi, flat-screen Roku smart TVs, Direct TV, record players and a selection of records, board games, charcoal grills and fully stocked kitchens.

At The Outpost, you'll be close enough for a quick drive to the shops, restaurants, ski resorts and attractions of downtown Big Bear Lake, but far enough away to enjoy the solitude of the San Bernardino Mountains.

A Friend Family

Our story starts with a bike ride around Big Bear Lake in October 2020. That's when one of our owners noticed the Quail Cove Lodge, a historic property in the Big Bear area, was for sale. He immediately had a vision. That vision became The Outpost.

Our five owners -- Billy, Alyssa, Jolene, Becky and Tim -- are a tight-knit friend family with passion for the outdoors, action sports, travel, adventure, art and community. We're pouring that passion into The Outpost, a boutique lodging experience for all in Big Bear Lake's historic North Shore hamlet of Fawnskin.

The Outpost is a place to gather. It's a hub for the community. It's a destination for adventure seekers, nature lovers and creative types. It's a spot for escape, a place to unwind and a familiar return.

The Outpost.
Keep going. You're almost there.

Dog Friendly

Are you planning to bring your furry friend? We sure hope so! The Outpost is dog-friendly and the perfect location for four-legged guests. We charge a $20/night cleaning fee per dog and provide dog towels for use in each cabin. (We know they like to jump in the lake, too.) We ask that you please pick up after your pups while on the property and that you let us know if you leave them alone in your cabin. The surrounding area offers so much outdoor fun for all, we doubt you'll want to keep them cooped up inside, anyway.

Angler Accommodating

Traveling to Big Bear Lake to cast a line? You've come to the right place. The Lake's North Shore offers excellent year-round fishing. Right now, the best time to try your luck is just before sunup and in the early morning. Expect to catch Rainbow Trout, Bass, Blue Gill, Catfish and Carp. And if you get them biting and need a place to clean, prepare and cook your catch, we provide a fish-cleaning station on-site, complete with running water, as well as a full kitchen and an outdoor, charcoal grill at each cabin.

Celebration Worthy

We would love to host your event at The Outpost, the perfect location for family reunions or weddings, birthday parties, kick-off events, media launches and multi-day retreats. Book all five cabins and enjoy the use of the entire property and work with us to make our space your own.
